Get ready for a frightfully fun evening tomorrow on Main Street in Downtown Clarksburg! The City of Clarksburg in partnership with the Clarksburg Visitors Bureau is bringing together Halloween spirit, mouthwatering barbecue, costumes, candy, music and plenty of family-friendly fun for our inaugural Halloween Festival.

The festival will take place Friday, October 30th, from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Main Street in Downtown Clarksburg, giving residents and visitors a full evening to celebrate the Halloween season together.

But this isn’t your typical Halloween celebration. This festival will combine the excitement of fall festivities with the smoky flavors of a pitmaster festival, creating a one-of-a-kind Halloween experience in the heart of downtown.

A lineup of BBQ food trucks will serve up delicious options throughout the evening, so festivalgoers can grab dinner while taking in everything the festival has to offer. Whether you come for the barbecue, the Halloween festivities or a little bit of both, there will be plenty to see, taste and do.

Also, 30+ street vendors will be jam packed throughout the street selling spooky products for everyone.

Of course, Halloween wouldn’t be complete without costumes and candy. Guests are encouraged to get creative regardless of their age and show off their Halloween spirit during the City’s brand-new festival as well as our costume contest that will take place during the middle of the festival (shortly after 7PM) and the finalists in each category will be decided by members of Clarksburg City Council.

The festivities will kick off with a smashing start as the Pumpkin Drop Contest brings together science, creativity, and friendly competition for an exciting opening event. Organized in collaboration with the Clarksburg Fire Department, the contest will challenge participants to put their engineering skills and ingenuity to the test by designing creative ways to protect their pumpkins from a dramatic fall.

Representatives from the Clarksburg Police Department, Clarksburg Fire Department, Clarksburg City Council, Harrison County Senior Citizens Center, and Harrison County EMS will go head-to-head in a lighthearted competition to see whose design can withstand the ultimate drop. With plenty of anticipation, laughter, and a few smashed pumpkins expected, the contest promises to be an entertaining way to officially launch an evening of fun Halloween festivities in Downtown Clarksburg.

Will their creations survive the drop? Festivalgoers will have to come downtown and find out for themselves at festival start!

A vintage car show and trunk or treat will then take place on Main Street from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM adding even more fun, giving families and children another opportunity to collect treats and enjoy some impressive classic vehicles along the way. Residents will want to be packed on the streets before 4:30 PM in order to experience a unique surprise the City has planned for everyone.

While you’re at it check out all the delicious candy and homemade sweets at Clarksburg’s newest downtown establishment Cornerstone Candy.

Adding to the excitement, DJ Salty Dog will keep Main Street rocking with Halloween hits all night, thanks to the generous support of One You Love Homecare, bringing music and energy to the heart of the festival.

As the sun goes down, the celebration will keep going with a Zombie Prom from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Break out your best costume or undead attire and get ready for a Halloween dance party unlike any ordinary night downtown. Make sure you are by the courthouse before 7:45PM, you WON’T want to miss this special presentation.

For those who like their Halloween celebrations with a few scares and chills, a Haunting at James & Law Company (7:30 PM to 10 PM *ticketed event for people 18+ ONLY) and the Clarksburg History Museum will offer haunted cemetery tours, giving festivalgoers a chance to explore the spookier side of Clarksburg and discover some of the stories hiding within the City’s history.

With the beautiful historic buildings of downtown Clarksburg as the backdrop, the haunted tours are the perfect addition to an evening already packed with costumes, candy, pumpkins, barbecue, music and Halloween fun.

For all the scary movie fans out there, in partnership with the Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center they will have two special screenings planned free to all kids, parents & guardians! “Hotel Transylvania” (2012) will be shown at 4:00 PM free for kids, thanks to WYK Associates, Inc.

Later that evening, adult moviegoers can catch the classic movie “Halloween” (1978) at 9:00 PM for free as well, thanks to The Twisted Spoke & L&L Auvil Insurance.

Also happening around the city, families will have even more opportunities to enjoy the festivities. Trunk-or-Treat events will be held in the respective parking lots at Clarksburg Baptist Church and the Clarksburg-Harrison Public Library, with both events running from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The Waldomore will also host a Jack-O’-Lantern Contest, with participants invited to set up their entries no later than 6 p.m. With judging taking place at 8 p.m.

This new Halloween Festival is about more than a single event; it’s an opportunity to bring the community together and experience Downtown Clarksburg during one of the most festive times of the year.

So, bring the family, invite your friends, put on your favorite costume and come hungry.

From pumpkins and pitmasters to costumes, candy, zombies, music and haunted tours, there’s something for everyone at The City’s first-ever Halloween Festival.
