Downtown Clarksburg will come alive with the sights, sounds, flavors and traditions of Hispanic culture as the third annual Fiesta Hispana returns to Jackson Square this Sunday, October 11th, from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m.

The annual celebration continues to grow as a community tradition, bringing residents and visitors together for an afternoon filled with authentic cuisine, live music, cultural experiences and opportunities to celebrate the rich Hispanic heritage represented throughout Clarksburg and the surrounding region.

This year’s festivities will begin with a special procession at 12:30 p.m., led by newly appointed Catholic Bishop Evelio Menjívar Ayala. The procession will travel from Immaculate Conception Church to Jackson Square, marking the ceremonial opening of the festival and bringing the community together ahead of the afternoon’s activities.

One of the highlights of Fiesta Hispana will be the opportunity to experience authentic Hispanic cuisine, with food representing seven different countries. Festival attendees will have the chance to explore a variety of traditional dishes and flavors that reflect the diversity of Hispanic cultures and culinary traditions.

Music will also take center stage during this year’s celebration. In partnership with the Cultural Foundation of Harrison County, Fiesta Hispana will welcome LAS ÁÑEZ., a musical group traveling from Medellín, Colombia, to perform in downtown Clarksburg.

LAS ÁÑEZ. The music of twins Juanita and Valentina Áñez is well worth listening to; it’s designed to be performed live using a loop pedal, beats, and small instruments. Their original songs, performed as a duet, are featured on four award-winning albums and have captivated audiences in eleven countries across the Americas and Europe for eleven years with their unique blend of folk and avant-garde elements.

The sister duo Las Áñez’s music has featured collaborations with renowned Colombian artists such as Andrea Echeverri, Edson Velandia, Marta Gómez, Cholo Valderrama, Lido Pimienta, and La Muchacha, as well as with major international figures such as Kevin Johansen from Argentina and the United States.

Las Áñez have performed at prestigious venues around the world, as well as at festivals such as Estéreo Picnic and Cordillera in Colombia, Vive Latino in Mexico, and the Fusion Festival in Germany. (See www.lasanez.com)

They recently released the music they composed for three national and international audiovisual projects: Nosotras (original score for the Colombian documentary), One Hundred Years of Solitude (songs for the teasers of the Netflix series), and La Liberación (covers and a cameo for the Mexican Prime Video series).

They are currently working on their fifth album, whose first single, “Libéralo,” was released in March 2025.

The internationally recognized group has performed around the world, including at the prestigious Kennedy Center, and will bring its musical talents to Jackson Square for a special performance. Their appearance offers festival attendees a unique opportunity to experience international artistry right in the heart of Clarksburg.

Adding to the significance of this year’s celebration, organizers are also honored to welcome representatives from the Consulate of Guatemala. Their participation highlights the festival’s growing cultural connections and its commitment to recognizing the many communities and traditions that contribute to Hispanic heritage.

Luis Ramirez, head of the festival board, emphasized the importance of sharing Hispanic heritage with the region and looks forward to another year of celebrating the culture’s rich history and traditions.

“Over the past few years, we have seen an increase of diversity in the area, not only with families coming into town but ethnic businesses around the state as well, which has helped us with additional resources and why we put this festival on in the first place for people. We have many exciting new additions to the festival this year and we hope that Fiesta Hispana will continue for years to come,” he said.

“Fiesta Hispana is a reality because of the generosity of our sponsors, community partners, and the tireless work of our Board of Directors and volunteers. To each of you, Thank You for giving your time, sharing your talents, and believing in this celebration. And to our community, you are the heart of this fiesta and the inspiration that keeps us moving forward. This is your moment to experience our culture, embrace our traditions, and share in the joy. Let’s celebrate, make memories, and have fun together!”

Beyond the food, music and festivities, Fiesta Hispana serves a larger purpose by creating opportunities for cultural understanding, community engagement and meaningful connections among neighbors.

The celebration provides an opportunity for members of the Hispanic community to share their heritage, traditions and stories while inviting residents from all backgrounds to experience and appreciate the cultures that help make Clarksburg a welcoming and diverse community.

As the festival enters its third year, organizers hope to continue building on its success by bringing people together through shared experiences and celebrating the importance of cultural identity.

Residents and visitors throughout Harrison County and beyond are encouraged to make their way to Jackson Square on Sunday, October 11th, for an afternoon of cultural celebration, entertainment and community spirit.

Fiesta Hispana is more than a celebration of Hispanic heritage. It is an opportunity to bring neighbors together, embrace cultural diversity and strengthen the connections that make Clarksburg a special place to call home.
