The Clarksburg Police Department is asking the community to help make Halloween a little more special for local children through its annual Halloween Costume Drive.

The department is currently collecting new Halloween costumes that will be distributed to children in the community, helping ensure more families have the opportunity to enjoy a safe, fun and memorable Halloween.

Halloween is a time filled with excitement and imagination for children, but purchasing a costume can sometimes be an added expense for families. Through the costume drive, the Clarksburg Police Department hopes to bring the community together and make sure more children can take part in the Halloween traditions.

Community members are encouraged to consider purchasing a new costume to donate. Costumes of different styles and sizes are welcome, giving local children more opportunities to find something they will be excited to wear this Halloween.

Lindsey Cooper, organizer of the costume drive said she hopes the turnout exceeds last year’s drive.

“We had so much success with this last year and we are hoping to get an even bigger response this year,” she said. “My goal is to get fifty costumes to all of the local elementary schools.”

Mark Kiddy, Chief of Police is looking forward to the drive again this year.

“This is something the department has been doing for a couple years. After speaking with teachers and people in the community about a large group of young children that aren’t able to participate in functions during Halloween. The department collects donated costumes, so all children have a chance to participate.”

Donations can be dropped off at the Clarksburg Police Department, located at 222 W. Main Street in Clarksburg.

The costume drive is another way the Clarksburg Police Department continues to connect with the community it serves while providing a helping hand to local families.

Whether it is a superhero, firefighter, princess, animal or another favorite Halloween character, every donated costume has the potential to put a smile on a child’s face.
