The Clarksburg Police Department helped local students start the school year with some extra support Thursday, delivering donated school supplies to three area elementary schools.

Officers dropped off supplies at Nutter Fort Elementary, Victory Elementary and Mountaineer Elementary following the department’s recent School Supply Drive.

Throughout the drive, community members were encouraged to donate notebooks, pencils, backpacks and other classroom essentials to help ensure local students have the supplies they need for a successful school year.

The donations collected through the effort will now make their way into the hands of students and classrooms across the three schools.

Chief of Police Mark Kiddy said supporting local students and schools is an important part of the department’s commitment to the community.

“The school supply initiative was started a couple years ago by Lindsey Cooper from the records department of the police department. She has received school supply donations from our local Walmart and several local citizens to give to local elementary schools to assist in providing children with needed school supplies. This is one of the most important initiatives our department takes part in, and hopefully it will continue to grow.”

Lindsey Cooper, organizer of the school supply drive, said she was thrilled to see the community come together to support local students through donations.

“This is our second year doing this supply drive and we are so thankful to all who have donated. We just want our community’s kids and teachers to have the best start to the school year.”

The Clarksburg Police Department thanks everyone who contributed to this year’s drive. The effort is another example of the department’s continued commitment to serving the community beyond traditional law enforcement and building positive relationships with local students, families and schools.

The City of Clarksburg also thanks everyone who donated and helped make the drive a success.
