Clarksburg First Fridays kicks off Month of August with Back to School Bash at Historic Waldomore

Kick off the new school year with an evening of family fun at the Historic Waldomore during Downtown Clarksburg’s First Fridays celebration on Friday, August 7th!

The Back to School Bash will feature something for all ages, including a free bookbag giveaway beginning at 4:30 p.m. hosted by the Clarksburg-Harrison Public Library, along with children’s activities on the library’s back lawn provided by the Youth Movement Association.

Visitors can also enjoy a Tarantella dance class from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. instructed by Anna Harsh- (Who started the Allegro Dance Company), explore the History of Harrison County Schools Exhibit at the Waldomore, browse the James & Law Company’s Art Gallery, tour the Clarksburg History Museum, and experience the Model Railroad Club in action. Most exhibits and attractions will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Chairman of the First Fridays Committee and President of the Clarksburg History Museum Mike Spatafore said they are excited for the community to see what they have in store.

“Since this is our back-to-school bash, we want children to come and receive a free bookbag and to view the school exhibits at the Waldomore and the Clarksburg History Museum,” he said.

Even as the years go on, the goal of Clarksburg Frist Fridays hasn’t changed.

“The goal of these First Friday activities is to get families to come to Clarksburg for a fun family event and to shop at our local stores and eat at our downtown restaurants,” Spatafore said.

Success of these events can’t be possible without the help of local residents, organizations and businesses, he said.

“The First Friday committee is made up of people representing many different businesses and organizations within the city. This includes representatives from the City of Clarksburg and many local citizens who are passionate about bringing positive changes to Clarksburg,” he said. “The success of the events we have downtown depends on the participation that we get from our community and local residents.”

Whether you’re preparing for the new school year, exploring local history, or simply looking for a fun evening downtown, the Back to School Bash is a great opportunity to celebrate our community, education, and all that Historic Waldomore has to offer. Bring the whole family and join us for this exciting First Fridays event!
